In late November, ASCE's International Student Group at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates hosted Civil Engineering Competition Day 2013. More than 120 students from six universities participated: Abu Dhabi University, American University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates University, University of Sharjah, Manipal University, and hosting university AUS.

At the opening ceremony, Osman Akan, civil engineering department head at AUS, and Rami Hawileh, ASCE-ISG advisor at AUS, encouraged and challenged participating students. Several faculty members from AUS served as judges for competitions including "spaghetti bridge" and "egg drop." The competition was a great accomplishment and allowed the students to apply their technical acquired knowledge into civil engineering applications in a competitive and fun environment.
