South Carolina associate dean elected Distinguished Member


M. Hanif Chaudhry, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, Dist.M.ASCE, was one of nine recently elected to ASCE’s highest honor – Distinguished Membership. Chaudhry grew up in Pakistan, studied in Vancouver, and today at the University of South Carolina is associate dean of the College of Engineering and Computing. His computational models of hydraulic transients are applied by engineers around the world, and he serves as a consultant to projects on six continents. Read more about his career.

NORTH CAROLINA SECTION
Former asst. secy. of energy for environmental management earns ASCE honor


James A. Rispoli, P.E., BCEE, NAC, Dist.M.ASCE, was honored with election to ASCE Distinguished Membership. Rispoli is one of the world’s preeminent civil engineers in construction, infrastructure, and nuclear facilities management and operations. The Raleigh, NC resident was appointed by President George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as assistant secretary of energy for environmental management. In four years in that role, Rispoli led the cleanup of waste and contamination from nuclear research and production. Read more about Rispoli’s secrets to management success.

KENTUCKY SECTION
Kentucky Life Member named Fellow


Dennis D. Smith, P.E., P.L.S., F.ASCE, president and CEO of DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC in Bowling Green, KY, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction. He has been a member of ASCE since 1980 and was recognized in 2010 as the Outstanding Engineer in Private Practice by the Kentucky Section. He was recently named a Lifetime Member of ASCE.
