REGION 3 NEWS Section centennials celebrate 100 years of engineering Photo courtesy ASCE Michigan Therese Kline, flexible pipe specialist in the special structures unit of Highway Development and president of the Michigan Section of ASCE, receives the State of Michigan recognition for the Michigan Section of ASCE’s 100 years of service from Director Steudle. The Illinois and Michigan sections are among the four ASCE Sections celebrating centennials this year, joining National Capital and Utah. The Michigan Section formed in 1916 in Detroit, where 100 years later the group hosted its centennial gala dinner at Cobo Hall. CENTRAL ILLINOIS SECTION COO with Springfield roots earns Fellow status John Coombe, P.E., S.E., F.ASCE, an executive vice-president and chief operating officer at Hanson Professional Services Inc., has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction. Coombe has contributed an immense amount to his community, particularly in Springfield, where he has served on the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors and chaired its infrastructure committee.
