AKRON-CANTON SECTION Whittenberger takes lead with ASCE and rugby team Renee Carter Whittenberger, P.E., M.ASCE, is a natural leader. She was president of the University of Akron student chapter during her college years. She has served on the ASCE Committee on Younger Members and is beginning a seven-year leadership term with the Akron-Canton Section. “I like the people that I work with. My friends are starting to get important, so I’m starting to notice the benefit of the networking I’ve been doing,” Whittenberger said. “I’m maintaining those relationships. And with every group, every leadership position, I get better at it.” Those leadership skills developed at ASCE have extended to the rugby pitch. Whittenberger started playing rugby five years ago – first in Akron and now as the founder of the Youngstown Steel Valley Rugby Club women’s team.
