REGION 10 NEWS Canadian team wins, Chinese team travels to take part in 2016 Steel Bridge finals Photo courtesy Bart Quimby Tongji University traveled from Shanghai to Utah to compete in the steel bridge nationals. College teams from around the world put their bridge-building expertise to the test in the 25th National Student Steel Bridge Competition, May 27-28, at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. Montreal university École de technologie supérieure took first place in the competition, narrowly edging out Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the University of Florida. Region 10 schools included the champion ÉTS team, the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (seventh place), Tongji University (10th place), Université Laval (14th place), the University of British Columbia (17th place), Lakehead University (19th place), and the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico (34th place). REGION 10 NEWS New 2017 officers tabbed in ASCE election The 2016 election for ASCE officers closed June 1, and the results are in. Kristina Swallow, a program manager for the city of Las Vegas, is ASCE’s 2017 President-Elect. She will be inducted at the Annual Business Meeting, Sept. 30, at the ASCE 2016 Convention in Portland, OR. In Region 10, Brett C. Phillips was voted in as Region Director-Elect. |
REGION 10 NEWS ASCE leaders strengthen bonds with South Africa ASCE Executive Director Tom Smith and President Mark Woodson recently traveled to South Africa to meet with leaders and discuss topics affecting the civil engineering profession there. Woodson shared the trip with members through a travelogue, featuring several photos. |
