REGION 9 NEWS Younger Members from Region 9 grow at ASCE leadership symposium Photo: Sutter-Group ASCE’s next generation of leaders gathered in early August for the Younger Member Leadership Symposium in the Washington, DC, area. Among them were the following members from Region 9: Gabriel Alcantar, Katharine Baker, Lisa Bryant, Trent Casillas, Nancy Duran, Jazz Gilbert, Flor Hernandez, Mahdi Khalilzad, Alex Lin, Shu-Wen Liu, Arman Motavvef, Kiana Negoro, Kari Nelson, Mark Principe, Jazzy Quinabo, Sabrina Rivera, and Patrick Toth. The weekend sessions included presentations from engineering professionals, ASCE staff and talented Younger Members. Topics ranged from social media and personal branding to presentation skills to leading through emotional intelligence. The group visited the U.S. Capitol, learning about building’s architecture and structural features as well as the many renovations it has endured through the years. The trip also featured tours of two green infrastructure sites in D.C. – protected bike lanes on Pennsylvania Avenue and the Fort Reno Green Roof Reservoir, both of which inspired discussion on the possibilities of sustainable design. Read more about the site tours, check out Kelly Doyle’s recap on the weekend from a Younger Member’s perspective, and find a Younger Member organization near you. |
